NHTSA complaint #11670426, filed 2025-07

“Bought the car used last year. The check engine light recently came on and started blinking. And stalled. The car was low in oil but there were no leaks. The engine was knocking. Had a diagnostic done and they said the engine had a death code and needed to be replaced. There is a campaign with Hyundai (#203) that we found online related to faulty piston oil rings and out symptoms matched near perfectly although our car is not associated with any claims”

“At 87000 miles engine started knocking and stalling. Took it to the dealership and rod bearings went out and needs an entirely brand new engine over $6000. As I am the second owner. I wasn't notified. Hyundai refuses to fix the car due to the fact the i did not get the recall”

NHTSA complaint #11541764, filed 2023-08

“There are several things that go wrong with this car. One is the headlights. I’ve had to change them several times over the span of a year. It also burns an insane amount of oil. I have to change it every 2k-3k miles and even at that point it’s almost out, even with an extender put in it. I’ve been told by numerous mechanics that I should just get rid of the car and they only run into this issue with Hyundais, especially the Elantras. My car had begun to act weird the day I got my oil changed this last time. …”
