“While driving up an incline the vehicle began to make a grinding noise. Shortly thereafter the car began shaking, with the check engine and ESC lights both coming on, then a sudden stoppage of acceleration, and then engine shut down while the vehicle was still in motion. This caused the immediate loss of steering and the brakes to go soft. The vehicle sat for 10 minutes before re-starting; however, after driving approximately 100 feet, the car once again made the grinding noise, engine and ESC light illumination, shaking, and then shut down. …”

While driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle began to vibrate excessively. The failure would recur when driving at various speeds and was most severe when driving at lower speeds. The contact detected that the rear driver side tire had substantial tread separation. The vehicle was taken to a tire center where the tire was replaced. Also, the rear passenger side tire exhibited the same defect. The manufacturer was notified and the tire was not replaced. The failure mileage was 19,452. …”
