Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“While braking normal to light pressure from 25-5mph on dry paved road, ABS system will turn on and greatly increase stopping distance. There has been more than one instance that I have not been able to stop before a stop light or stopped traffic. There are no ABS codes or ABS idiot lights on in the dash which indicate that anything is wrong. Safety is a large concern. Brought vehicle to dealer and no issue was found, without being requested to pay $1500+ for an entire new ABS. This was after they told me they couldn't find source to the problem. …”

NHTSA complaint #10274535, filed 2009-06, 120,000 miles

“While driving vehicle suddenly lost power and idled. Dealership serviced vehicle 5 times and replaced ignition coil, mass air flow sensor, and 2 other components. But the failure still recurred. Also, vehicle was serviced 3 times for brake failure. Brake pads and rotors were replaced twice. But grinding continued.”

NHTSA complaint #10074086, filed 2004-05, 12,000 miles

“I was involved in a auto accident in which another car hit me in the front center of my car and their front right. My speed was 40 miles before brakes applied their speed was about 15. My air bags did not deploy but theirs did. Both fire and rescue personal voice concern about the non deployment of airbags with visual damage to vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #740700, filed 2001-02

“The contact stated while depressing the brake pedal at highway speeds the vehicle vibrates due to the rotors being warped. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and the front brakes were replaced. Since the replacement the contact began to have the problem with the vehicle vibrating. It has been taken to the dealership a total of three times. The first time both front rotors were turned. The second time the front passenger rotors were resurfaced. The last time the front passenger rotor was warped however the dealership resurfaced the front driver and passenger side rotors. …”

NHTSA complaint #10154983, filed 2006-04, 36,748 miles

“When applying brakes braking distance is not what it should be. Consumer rearended a vehicle while going about 10 MPH, had applied brakes, ABS made noise, and vehicle continued to slide forward. Dealer told consumer she just needed to get used to ABS brakes. Please add additional information.”
