“The blind spot warning went off and locked all the brakes up. We were not able to move the vehicle and could not even pull off the road out of traffic. There is no way to disable the brakes when the computer or sensors are malfunctioning. We had to get the vehicle towed.”
NHTSA complaint #11668922, filed 2025-06“Driving interstate right lane cruise control set at 73 mph. Car in front of me proceeded to leave lane to the left in order to pass 18 wheeler in front of it. Noticed my car felt different at that time and looked at dashboard to see cruise control now set to 110 mph and speed almost 90 mph. Documented with photo. Disabled cruise with breaking. Shared this on Tucson forums Reddit and Hyundai Forums with confirmation that this has and is happening.”
NHTSA complaint #11555522, filed 2023-11“My vehicle takes over my breaks and completely takes control of my vehicle away from me (the driver). It does this randomly. I had a hit and run in a parking lot due to this issue. I am greatly concerned for my safety.”
NHTSA complaint #11514834, filed 2023-03“A week ago, I was driving my 2022 Tucson Hybrid Limited on the highway on my way to work around 7:50 a.m. It was a bright day, good weather. I was in the center lane when my car suddenly braked HARD and came to a stop on the highway! My foot was still on the gas pedal, but the Automatic Emergency Braking light was on. I panicked because I had no control over what the car was doing. Thankfully, I was not rear-ended and didn't cause an accident. I put on my hazard lights, shifted into park on the highway's center lane, then back into drive and it seemed fine. …”
NHTSA complaint #11616639, filed 2024-09“The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving 42 MPH, the vehicle experienced phantom sudden braking. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact disengaged the brake assist feature; however, the feature independently reactivated. The dealer was contacted and informed about the failure but offered no assistance. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 19,000.”
