“I have replaced 4 alternators due to oil dripping down on it. I have had mechanics try and fix the oil leak but have not succeeded. Also whenever there is a heavy rain or whenever you go through a large puddle of water everything wants to shut down it is dangerous driving in the rain because sometimes you have to try and get out of traffic due to everything shutting down.”

NHTSA complaint #11389951, filed 2021-01, 65,000 miles

“Car wont start, took it in to the shop found out oil was leaking on to the alternator and that the vale gasket it leaking oil. Took it into the dealer 4 years ago to get it fix for the recall. Had the car for 5 years and have changed 5 alternators, and 5 batteries, now that I have put a new battery and alternator again, the car wont start now without getting it jumped off. We have tried disconnectioing the terminal when not driving but that only works sometimes. …”

NHTSA complaint #11180845, filed 2019-02, 170,254 miles

“Car died while driving (in motion), I took it in and they needed to replaced alternator at cost of $704.02. Same problem with alternator began to happen again. I received a recall notice, nhysa 14v-415. Recall work was then done. I attempted to get reimbursed for the money spent the first time the alternator went out. I sent in all paperwork required and waited. I phoned in to see what the delay was, they were missing our proof of payment receipt. I sent that in and waited some more. Each time I called I had a new case worker because the other one(s) were no longer working there. …”

NHTSA complaint #10419081, filed 2011-08, 17,471 miles

“2007 Hyundai Veracruz total vehicle failure. Vehicle stalled out while pulling into intersection on way to church. Thank god we stalled before getting all the way into the intersection because cars were coming from both ways. I put the vehicle in n and we luckily rolled back out of the way. Problem was due to leaky valve cover dripping on alternator. I have seen many forums and read of many problems with this happening. Why hasn't anything been done about this? Does someone have to get in a wreck and die before there will be a recall. …”
