Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Car's dash gets sticky and shinny when exposed to direct sunlight. Once sticky and shinny, it gets reflected on the front windshield obstructing my visibility on the road. This condition started about 7 months ago, noticed it after parked outside under direct sunlight. Contacted the local rep and was informed I had to pay for the dash replacement as the manufacturer is not recognizing the problem as one to be covered under recall. …”

NHTSA complaint #10875074, filed 2016-06, 49,000 miles

“My dashboard (top near the windshield glass) is always sticky and shiny in certain parts and collects dust. It makes it difficult to drive in the sun because of the glare from the stickiness. The lightly driven car is kept in garage at home and exposed to sun when at work. Vehicle has 57k miles and has always been garage kept. I am concerned after hearing about other Infiniti dashboards that are melting and no action from the manufacturer.”

NHTSA complaint #10872092, filed 2016-06, 57,000 miles

“When driving into the sun, the melting dash causes a glare on my windshield which can make it difficult to see. I noticed the issue a while back but never thought to report it.”

NHTSA complaint #11035888, filed 2017-10, 145,000 miles

“I own a 2007 Infiniti G35 coupe. In august 2013, while driving at approximately 40 MPH, the engine stalled without warning. This occurred in the middle lane of I-95 rush hour traffic. The power steering was out as well but I was able to pull my car to the shoulder. The vehicle was unable to restart after multiple attempts and was towed to the a repair facility. They were able to start the car with next morning without issue. Ran diagnostics and no code was indicated. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. …”

NHTSA complaint #10717621, filed 2015-05, 80,000 miles

“In the hot months the dash board melts, and becomes extremely sticky. Once melted, the dash reflects light coming through the windshield and becomes super reflective and bright causing visibility issues that are almost blinding at certain points of the day. It is extremely dangerous and a safety issue. This started roughly four or five years ago and has gotten progressively worse.”
