“This was as close to a disaster as I ever want, the perfect storm in driving. I was driving, with my two small grandchildren in the backseat, at night, in a storm that warranted a severe storm warning. The rain was coming down in buckets as I met another car on a curve. I hit the dimmer switch and my lights went out completely. In a panic, I hit it again and they came back on in full bright mode. The poor driver I was meeting got bright light, total black darkness and back to bright lights so I really owe him or her a lot of gratitude for holding it together too. …”
NHTSA complaint #10239457, filed 2008-08“The contact owns a 1999 Infiniti QX4. While driving approximately 30 MPH, the contact lost control of the steering causing him to crash into a pole. The vehicle sustained damage to the front driver side. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to an auto shop where the mechanic advised that the steering shaft had fractured and caused the contact to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 199,000. Updated 06/14/2012”
