“My driveway has a very slight incline. When parked on the incline I was unable to get my car out of park unless I used force. In 2004 the gear started sticking. The dealer replaced the cable gear assembly. In july 2006 I had the car in drive but it started rolling backwards. I had to hold the gear in drive in order to drive the car. I drove it directly to the dealer where I had the gear assembly replaced again! …”

“I purchased a 2001 Jaguar S-Type less than a year ago. It has less than 70000 miles on it and while I am driving down the road the motor starts revving up and it won't shift....it says gearbox fault. Apparently this is a common problem among this model of car. I was pulling out to make a left turn and was nearly hit because suddenly the car wouldn't go. How many complaints do you have to have to force a recall? I purchased this car because I thought it would be a safe dependable car. Very poor craftsmanship!”

NHTSA complaint #10289107, filed 2009-10, 69,200 miles

“When I bought the car a week later it blew hot air, I was told it only needed freon. I found out later that there was a leak and it is $1200. A week after that the car would not start the dealer picked the car up and said that the battery was dead because I left the radio on, it has happened over 30 times, not true there is something wrong. I have replaced tires at least six times. Tires completely separate. I was driving and car slowed down on freeway and I was almost hit, I pulled over and it stopped and did it again and I had to push the traction control button, almost cost me my life! …”

NHTSA complaint #10168686, filed 2006-09, 60,000 miles

“Owner of a Jaguar S-Type 4.0, 2001, 54,000 miles : a warning light came up indicating shift gear failure . The car was taken to the dealership as per their request to investigate the situation. After 3 days I was told that a new transmission was needed. I asked how a relatively new car, very well kept (every service was done on time and at the dealership) could have this major problem. I was told that this type of car frequently have this problems. Jaguar is replacing the transmission with a refurbished one for a cost of $2240.00 plus tax. What can I do to get some of this expense back. …”

NHTSA complaint #10095963, filed 2004-10, 54,500 miles

“Recently (10/16/08) purchased a 2001 S-Type 4.0 with 74316 mi. 2nd day I had it transmission started slipping. Within 1 week had to be rebuilt. All coils replaced and #4 & #5 keep going bad. Dealership stated coils were broken. Sent home with broken coils. Window regulators needed to be replaced. Check engine light on dealership stated no problem. Poor service, poor quality.”
