“The vehicle is factory stock with 30,000 miles on it. At highway speeds it experiences what is referred to as the Jeep Death Wobble - the vehicle and steering wheel shake violently until I reduce speed to below 50 mph. It is difficult to control and slowing rapidly on the highway is additionally dangerous. It is at a Jeep dealer, but they only want to change the steering dampner. This part is not a real fix - something is loose or not property aligned to cause the shaking. The dampner is a temporary fix that addresses the symptom, not the cause of the shaking. …”
NHTSA complaint #11550785, filed 2023-10“Heavy vibration in steering wheel when hit bumps at highway speeds. This started in Nov 2022 when the Jeep was 5 months old. The dealer replaced the steering damper under warranty. It happened again in the summer of 2023. The steering damper was replaced again. It continues to happen and is now at the dealer for the fifth time with the same issue. The dealership confirms the condition reported each time. They do not know how to fix it and suggest new tires as the Bridgestones that came on the vehicle may be causing this issue. No modifications were made to any of these components. …”
