“For a couple of years now my air bag warning light comes on and an intermittent warning chime (1999 Jeep grand cherokee Laredo). I have not had it repaired because I can't afford the expense. I don't know if the airbag will deploy when it shouldn't or if it will not deploy when it should. I have seen the same complaint on this safety website and think it should be addressed by Jeep.”
NHTSA complaint #10760938, filed 2015-09, 148,000 miles“The air bag light constantly comes on and chimes on my 1999 Jeep grand cherokee Laredo. It is mostly when I make a left turn. This is a very costly repair. The manufacturer should make a re-call of all these jeeps. What are you waiting for a terrible accident I found out that all jeeps made in 1999 have this defect, and nothing has been done about it. Concern Jeep owner.”
NHTSA complaint #10628296, filed 2014-08, 110,000 miles“I own a 1999 Jeep grand cherokee. The air bag light stays on all the time and the chime for it goes off very often. I have taken it to a dealer and they said that it may be the clock spring. I was later told that many of the models in this year have the same problem. Why are we paying out of pocket for something that is obviously a faulty part on the factory's part?”
NHTSA complaint #10314388, filed 2010-02, 86,000 miles“The consumer was involved in a head on collision with a telephone pole when she tried to avoid hitting a deer on the road at 45 MPH. The air bags did not deploy upon impact and the seat belt did not hold. The consumer suffered injuries.”
NHTSA complaint #10109708, filed 2005-02, 120,000 miles“The contact owns a 1999 Jeep Laredo. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000. The current mileage was approximately 113,000.”
