“My 2008 Jeep patriot hesitates, sputters, and stalls a few minute after I fill it up. If I don't fill it all the way, it does not stall (and I never top-off when filling). I have started the practice of only filling 3/4 or pulling over in the gas station to let the car stall at idle before proceeding. When I first noticed the issue a few months ago, it stalled on me in traffic after leaving the fueling station. This was very dangerous. …”

NHTSA complaint #11099879, filed 2018-06, 75,000 miles

“Rollover valve - every time I filled the gas tank, there was significant jerking and occasional stalling. This didn't happen if I only filled partially. Within a mile there would be jerking, and stalling has happened while idling and while driving. Not only is that a huge safety concern, but in a vehicle rollover the valve prevents gas from spilling out and starting possible fires. Luckily I was only on local streets and not a highway when I stalled, but I have read other forums where people's patriots stalled at higher speeds. …”

NHTSA complaint #10885867, filed 2016-07, 100,000 miles

“My Jeep patriot cuts off and to this date, I haven't received an answer on the cause of this problem. I purchased a new alternator and a battery and that did not solve that issue. On november 29, 2013, I drove the car from stamford, ct to bridgeport, ct. I was driving at a speed of 50 MPH and all of a sudden, the car started making a noise as if something was clogged in the fuel system. The car would not drive over a speed over 15 MPH. The very next day, I had the car checked and there is a computer malfunction in the fuel injection system. …”

NHTSA complaint #10559992, filed 2014-01, 119,200 miles

“Each time after fueling up the vehicle, it stalls out. This has happened twice within a week of each other on a city street after leaving the gas station. The first time my foot was on the brake and the car stalled out. The next time the car was in motion and stalled. This is a frightening and commonly cited issue with patriot owners.”

NHTSA complaint #11197021, filed 2019-04, 115,000 miles

“Whenever the vehicle is parked with the front end at even a slight incline it will not start. This occurs whether or not the gas tank is full and it's annoying. I have to shake the car in order to get gas to the fuel pump and get it to start. This has happened since the car was a week old and continues to occur.”
