Example complaints

One per model year, chosen for length and detail. Personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

2001: “I was on my way to college when I hit a patch of wet road, when I tried to correct the slide, the right side grabbed and put me into a spin over both lanes and I hit the left side guard rail head on at approx. 45mph. Air bags didn't deploy for either side. Car is almost worth fixing but I will never drive that metal deathtrap again. This is my first and absolutely the last Kia I will ever buy.”

NHTSA complaint #10457546, filed 2012-05, 136,000 miles

1999: “When it gets cold, about 20 degrees, the front doors will freeze open. For instance, in the morning I will have to pull on the door hard to get it to open because it's frozen and then the door will stay open (the latch will freeze) until it gets above 35 degrees. Even with the heat going for over an hour it will not unfreeze. I have to hold the door closed as I drive.”

NHTSA complaint #10266203, filed 2009-04, 70,000 miles

2000: “The locks freeze up in cold temps, enough to twist and bend my key. Even trying to force it open from the inside does not work. I almost broke my thumb trying to force it open unless you put a heater in the car for a long time.”
