Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was stopped at a yield sign due to oncoming traffic and was stuck from the rear from another vehicle. My seatbelt did not lock and my chest struck the steering wheel and rebounded into the seat. My seat moved forward causing difficulty exiting the vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10040885, filed 2003-09

“My then 10 year old son got stuck when the passenger seat belt would not release. To get himself out he alone pushed his hips forward. This broke the seat belt mechanism. As of late our front seat belts have been difficult to engage. Today, after driving around for about 5-10 minutes, I reached out my window and my seat belt disengaged. I have been very careful to be sure that I am properly buckled by securely latching and then pulling firmly on the belt as would happen in an accident. I did that this time but it still came unlatched after I was sure I was safe.”

NHTSA complaint #10107832, filed 2005-01

“When attempting to make an emergency stop in traffic that came to a sudden holt, anti-lock brakes did not respond. Pedal was applied, and vehicle just began sliding, hitting another vehicle in rear. Air bags did not deploy, and seat belts did not restrain. Kia has been contacted.”

NHTSA complaint #880524, filed 2001-02

“Consumer complained that rear seat belts were not functioning properly, and another set was installed in the back. Currently, they seem to be too small for an average adult. When puttng them on they automatically lock into the seat. Dealer replaced rear seat belt assembly. Right front window is blurry. Dealer replaced deformed front door glass. Rear defroster inoperative. Dealer found rear defrost grid broken. Left side mirror vibrates. Side mirror assembly replaced.”

NHTSA complaint #8005503, filed 2002-03

“While traveling with rear seat belts on seat belts locks up and passanger was unable to move. Please provide further information. Mfr has been contacted.”
