“While driving my 2022 Kia Sportage, the brakes suddenly stopped responding. I pressed the brake pedal hard several times and the vehicle did not slow down or stop at all. There was no braking pressure and no warning lights. Because the brakes failed completely, I crashed directly into a guardrail. The airbags deployed on impact. This was not driver error, it was a sudden and total brake system failure. The vehicle is currently in a wreck yard and requires immediate manufacturer inspection.”

NHTSA complaint #11701175, filed 2025-11

“I am submitting this complaint regarding the positive battery terminal fuse block (battery terminal/fusible link assembly) on my 2022 Kia Sportage. The component is currently installed on the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request. I purchased this vehicle in 2024, when it was only about two years old. Because of the vehicle's age, I did not expect to experience major electrical problems. Approximately one year after purchasing it, in June, the battery failed and I had to purchase a brand-new replacement battery. …”

NHTSA complaint #11751241, filed 2026-07

“The car turns off while driving. This is happened four times the first time. Kia told me in Berkeley nothing was wrong. The car started back up bring it back. If it happens again it happened again. They have had the car for over a month. The car will not start. It has not been looked at and told me that there’s other cars it’s been there for over a month. I wouldn’t be so mad my daughters on Chemo I have to have a car that’s reliable to get her there and a dealership that cares this is scary could’ve killed us.”

NHTSA complaint #11515225, filed 2023-04

“Our 2022 Sportage backup camera screen has gone completely blank creating an immediate rear visibility safety hazard that violates federal back up camera standards. The manual indicated fuse is still functional and the infotainment reset does not resolve the issue. The entire system remains nonfunctioning.”

NHTSA complaint #11754366, filed 2026-08

“The contact owns a 2022 Kia Sportage LX. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH to get onto the highway, the contact accelerated; however, the driver in front of her stopped abruptly. The contact crashed into the rear end of the driver in front. The forward collision sensor warning light did not illuminate on the instrument panel. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle did not have to be towed. There was a police report filed. There was no injury or medical reports. …”
