“I purchased my 2022 Kia Sportage on September 15, 2021. In February 2022, there was a deep freeze. When then weather warmed up, there was a crack in my windshield. I took the car in for it's 6 month service and the window was replaced. On Christmas morning 2023, there was a crack in my windshield again. in the same place. Both times the crack started on the driver's side in the bottom black area of the windshield. We haven't had any deep freezes this winter. Now, I have to get the window replaced a second time. …”

“I was driving at 65 mph highway speed heading east on Colorado highway 36 when my Sunroof exploded. I pulled off the highway on to the shoulder of the road and looked to see that the sunroof glass on my vehicle had shattered in an upward displacement. Literally looked like the glass was pushed up from the inside. Dry pavement no sign of rocks. This vehicle has 4200 miles on it and this current occurrence comes after a similar shattering of one of my side panel windows after I entered the vehicle in April 2022 and closed the vehicle door. …”

NHTSA complaint #11505828, filed 2023-02

“Our 2022 Sportage backup camera screen has gone completely blank creating an immediate rear visibility safety hazard that violates federal back up camera standards. The manual indicated fuse is still functional and the infotainment reset does not resolve the issue. The entire system remains nonfunctioning.”

NHTSA complaint #11754366, filed 2026-08

“The contact owns a 2022 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an explosion and observed that the moon roof glass had shattered, sending glass down into the interior of the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but it had not yet been diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.”

NHTSA complaint #11682927, filed 2025-08, 42,000 miles

“The glass between the windshield and sunroof shattered it looks like it exploded from the inside. There are three lines going across ans then mini shattering inside. I was not in any accident and the vehicle was not hit by any flying objects or debris. There are similar accounts of this happening to other Kia vehicles, for some reason the tempered glass is cracking either heat or cold not sure. There is no impact point on the vehicle to say it was hot by a rock or anything just tiny shattered glass. Kia is not trying to remedy the issue at all.”
