“I was driving from westchester county, ny to long island via I-695 heading toward the throgs neck bridge on 12/12/18. I was in the left lane just before the last exit before the bridge when my dashboard went dark, the red battery light (below the speedometer) came on, I lost power and steering. Luckily a small shoulder opened up and I was able to tug the wheel left to get into the shoulder before my car completely rolled to a stop. I avoided a crash but it was luck. I had to be towed off the highway and back to the dealer. Clearly this was no battery issue (as driving recharges a batter). …”

NHTSA complaint #11162489, filed 2018-12, 31,000 miles

“Total loss of power steering. Was able to avoid crash but extremely dangerous. Has to get it towed to dealer $6,800 fix for total rack replacement due to bolts sheering off from EPS. Research shows this is a known issue due to faulty aluminum bolts in areas that salt roads.”

NHTSA complaint #11723191, filed 2026-03

“The contact owns a 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport. The contact stated that while reversing from a parking spot, the steering wheel seized. There was an abnormal screeching sound detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that the failure was due to the steering rack and the motor had disconnected. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 64,271.”

NHTSA complaint #11568026, filed 2024-01, 64,271 miles

“Went to change lanes on highway heard a clunk and lost control of steering. Limped it to off ramp and steering was completely broken. There is only 43000 miles on this and I bought it at 39000”
