“On december 12, 2017, about 5 pm. I was driving home from work. I heard a loud explosion. Thought I had blown a tire on the passenger side it was so loud it scared me. I pulled over on the side of the road immediately and called my spouse. While I was on the phone my spouse and I discussed what it could have been since no tire was blown. I picked under the vehicle couldn't see anything leaking or damage. I got back in the car with my spouse still on the phone and started the vehicle to check dummy lights on the - nothing there. …”
NHTSA complaint #11084347, filed 2018-04, 110,000 miles“Sunroof exploded and rained pieces of glass into car while driving down highway: 1 - was not struck by rock. There were no cars within 2 miles either direction. 2 - sounded like a loud pop. A loud, but dull noise - not a sharp sound like something striking car. 3 - there is a hole in the center of the sunroof about 4x8 inches with the broken glass around the edges pointing up - looks like it exploded upward. The rest of the sunroof is now cracked safety glass. 4 - road was smooth highway, temperature was about 85f, all windows on car were closed with AC on.”
