Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Over time, the rearview mirror has darkened with black spots and lines making it difficult to see during the day. Lexus IS aware of the problem, but will not replace the mirror without a recall. The defect can be seen on rearview mirrors for sale on ebay. I was advised by Lexus service that if it doesn't pass safety check inspection to stick on a temporary mirror. They know there IS a problem and it IS a safety issue. There must be a recall before someone dies. I find myself looking longer into the mirror, taking my eyes off the road, to discern the traffic behind. …”

NHTSA complaint #11277003, filed 2019-10, 40,000 miles

“It happened on two occasions. I was driving and decided to roll down my passenger window. I normally keep it closed. After a while, decided to close it and rolled up but it overshoot the window frame, that the glass almost fell off. I had to stopped and manually push it back in. I successfully rolled it up and kept it there for a week until my son rolled it down last march 1st,2015. It no longer will roll up. I took my car to palm beach Lexus on that same day. Apparently the plastic clip broke off and the entire window has to be replaced, for 600 usd. …”

NHTSA complaint #10691809, filed 2015-03, 53,000 miles

“My dashboard IS melting horribly. I have contacted Lexus on several occasions. I was told that I first needed to bring it the nearest dealership in my area to have to serviced and get an estimate. The service report stated that the dash was in fact melting and needed to be replaced. I followed up with another call to Lexus and was informed that it was out of warranty and that it could not be replaced. I indicated that issue IS by far not a warranty issue but in fact a defect in the material used to make the dashboard. The visibility on the driver side IS horrible and quite dangerous.”

NHTSA complaint #10619394, filed 2014-08, 49,855 miles

“The dashboard melting when the vehicle was in motion and stationary. Melting dashboard creates a glare in the windshield and makes it impossible to see when driving during the day. Additionally, toxic fumes from melting dashboard make it difficult to breathe when driving.”

NHTSA complaint #11325463, filed 2020-05, 60,000 miles

“Interior rear view mirror has become discolored, cloudy with dark marks throughout making it difficult to visualize objects in it. Seems to be a common problem occurring with this model of Lexus. It should be covered under warranty but at this time Lexus has not issued a recall or extended warranty.”

NHTSA complaint #10706174, filed 2015-04, 68,000 miles
