Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“When I bought car, I noticed 2 areas (each about 4 in. Diameter) of slight paint degradation on roof at rear. Now, 2 years later, size of degraded areas has increased to 2x original size, paint has chalked considerably and damage is moving down through layers to base. Also have noticed same paint trouble starting to occur on front roof struts (where windshield is). I am interested in finding out if other owners have/are experiencing similar trouble.”

NHTSA complaint #713478, filed 1999-10

“I had just bought this car from a private owner for my sister to drive to work. Well not even before we got home the main eec iv computer died so the car would not run. Once we figured out it was the main computer and replaced it it ran fine. But we still had two bad front air struts to fix. After all that she finally got to drive it to work and the first day she drove the car she did not even make it home because the transmission just stopped working. So she is out a car and we do not have the money to fix it. Because of all the other cars my poor sister has owned drained us.”

NHTSA complaint #10070664, filed 2004-01

“Noticed paint starting to fade and haze in small area which has now appeared in other areas and continues to spread and deteriorate paint. Entire paint system is a failure.”

NHTSA complaint #703663, filed 1999-02

“When driving on the highway car shakes or vibrates very badly, and the engine checklight stays on all the time. Also, there is an odor that is coming through the vents.”

NHTSA complaint #851246, filed 1999-10
