Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“When leaving work on evening of 07-08-99, attempted to place seatbelt into latch and latch failed to work. I was concerned that if I had been involved in an accident I could have possibly been ejected from my vehicle. Incidently, in 1997, I was involved in a car accident and the person driving the other vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected and killed. I run high anxiety levels concerning wearing seatbelts. I feel that my safety and my families safety is at hand and this problem could happen again.”

NHTSA complaint #709314, filed 1999-07

“While driving consumer's son got caught on the rear seat belt which tightened around his neck. Consumer had to cut the belt in order to release her son.”

NHTSA complaint #858961, filed 2000-03
