“I purchased a 2000 Lincoln Navigator from laurel-ford dealer in mississippi on august 21, 2003. After asking the dealership if all necessary maintenances were done on vehicle my family and I left for new york. I still had the original mfr warranties and I purchased an extended warranty plan. While traveling on the interstate on august 25th the brake lights came on and suddenly the left rear tire exploded. My family and I feared for our lives. It turned out that the brakes were faulty, no emergency brakes, no stablizer, heavily rusty links, and etc. The tow truck had to tow us twice. …”

“I am the owner of a 2000 Navigator. I bought it from a private owner about a year and a half ago. When go to change gears, the vehicle sometimes won't go into gear or if I put it in park, it sometimes won't go. Then I tried to use my emergency brake when parking, which is what I had to resort to due to the vehicle not staying in gear, it also would not work. I went to get my vehicle safety inspection and of course it did not pass. So that prompted my online research as to how to fix the problem. …”

The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility, in which the mechanic attempted to make repairs. However, while in the shop the vehicle caught on fire while idling. The fire department extinguished the flames. The fire report states that fire was caused by brake booster failure. All the plastic components of the braking system and brake lines were destroyed. No repairs were made to the vehicle. …”

NHTSA complaint #10150751, filed 2006-02, 82,000 miles

“When brakes were changed vehicle had brake failure, not stopping. They failed to work with capacity until a hundred miles. This was the explanation given by general manager at dealership. Vehicle was taken to another dealership, which corrected the problem due to an improper cutting of brake rotors. Please describe details.”
