“After starting the car while parked, I stepped on the brake and put the car in drive, as soon as I put the car in drive the engine accelerated without me putting my foot on the gas pedal and I had to stand on the brake, the car jumped forward, I jammed the car into neutral and the engine still continued to accelerate to a high RPM, I had to shut the engine off to get it to stop accelerating. I had several children in the car and we almost hit the car parked in front of us. This is the fourth time in 4 months that this has happened. …”
NHTSA complaint #10724267, filed 2015-06, 196,250 miles“I was driving through a parking lot when I took my foot off the gas pedal and lightly stepped on the brake pedal. As soon as I touched the brake pedal the car accelerated to an uncontrollable speed in a parking lot and I stood on the brake pedal as hard as I could but the car kept accelerating across the parking lot. I had to jam the gear into neutral to keep the car from continuing to accelerate and the RPM's of the engine continued to accelerate until I turned off the engine. Fortunately I did not hit anything in the parking lot and no one was injured. …”
NHTSA complaint #10684035, filed 2015-02, 192,000 miles“I have a 2005 Lincoln Town Car, signature series, that on the same day on two occasions while going slow and lightly braking the car suddenly accelerated. My foot was not anywhere close to the gas pedal. This has never happened before and not in the last two weeks. I went up on the net and found many other people had reported the exact same problem with that exact year and model Lincoln. A number of which went to their local ford dealer only to find them to say we checked it out thoroughly and found nothing wrong. I expect this could very well happen again and create a very serious accident. …”
NHTSA complaint #10451034, filed 2012-03, 65,000 miles“The contact owns a 2005 Lincoln Town Car. While driving 55 MPH, the vehicle accelerated independently without warning. The vehicle accelerated to 85 MPH. The contact was able to place the vehicle in neutral and slow down the vehicle. The contact turned the vehicle off and on, and the vehicle operated normally. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the electronic valve in the fuel injector seized in the open position and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. …”
