“While driving down the highway my driver side sliding door flew open with my 5 and 3 year old in the car. When I pulled over and tried to close it I could see that the latch was frozen open. I could not get it to latch again until the temperature had been warmer for half the day. It has been colder that 25 degrees for the last 3 days.”

NHTSA complaint #11098387, filed 2018-05, 10 miles

“Update - tire wear/suspension. I contacted Mazda USA via e-mail on 5/31/13. I received a response concerning this matter and was given a canned response but it was basically sorry for your luck you will need to take to a Mazda dealer to see what steps you can take to ensure a better life for your vehicle and to try to avoid such costly repairs. There was no offer to assist. I called the rep and was basically told the same thing. I asked how many reports of the alignment/tire wear issues were reported to them and was told they would not provide that information. …”

NHTSA complaint #10515084, filed 2013-06, 50,000 miles

“I own a 2006 MAZDA5 and the seatbelt base connector fell apart, literally collapsed and all the pieces of hard plastic came off leaving an unlatchable metal plate. I cannot afford to fix the thing because it is too expensive for my single mom fixed budget of 3 kids and no work because I attend school full time.”

NHTSA complaint #10651283, filed 2014-10

“The contact owns a 2006 Mazda 5. The contact stated that the plastic guard around the tire fractured and detached on the front driver side of the vehicle. As a result, the brake line was cut by the plastic and caused the driver to crash into a rock wall. The brake caliper and driver door were damaged. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000.”
