“The driver's door on my 2004 Mazda 6 will not open. This car has electric locks. All doors open except the driver's door. The dealership told me the latch was bad and it will cost $400 to repair. This creates a safety hazard. If I am in a wreck, I can't open the door to get out. There should be a way to manually disengage the locking mechanism in case of emergency. This is a manufacturing defect and engineering defect. This is a big safety issue with this car.”

NHTSA complaint #10241317, filed 2008-09, 114,000 miles

“Driver side door would not open from outside with key or inside with latch. I've been using the key to open the doors for the past year because both remotes stopped working. All doors unlocked but the driver side. It looked like the driver latch was not moving to the fully open position. I lowered the window and tried to move the interior latch manually but it would not move. I entered the door from the passenger side in order to drive. I checked today and there are currently no recalls on my vehicle. I called the dealership and they quoted $280 for a replacement part. …”

NHTSA complaint #10512187, filed 2013-05, 160,000 miles

“The door locks on the vehicle failed. As a result, I am unable to enter the car from the drivers side door. Furthermore, the remote control, key, interior latch, door handle will not open the door. As a result, I have to enter the car through the passenger side door and climb over the center console. This is a problem due to back surgery in which screws were placed in my lower back to stabilize to disk. Because the door will not open, the door panel can not be removed and thus there is no access to the failed parts. No one seems to want to work on the problem. …”

NHTSA complaint #10411131, filed 2011-07, 82,126 miles

“Car is a Mazda 6 sport wagon 2004 with power door locks. This is not a complaint against a dealer or the manufacturer (Mazda) at this point. They are currently working on the problem and I expect a satisfactory fix. The issue here is the failure mode of the part of the car in question which part is door locks. The first day we had the car, we had the driver's side door lock not open using the key fob or the key. We could not open the door for about 10 minutes and then, suddenly, it started working again. …”

NHTSA complaint #10118389, filed 2005-04, 125 miles

“Dt: air conditioner will fog up the windshield. It blows through the defroster and it blows moisture on the windshield. This happens mostly in the morning and evening and when it rains. Dealer and manufacturer said there was nothing they could do. The material on the seats was coming a apart, the door handles were inoperative.”
