“On may the 5th 2014 while sitting still and the engine not running the passenger seat airbag deployed causing deep bruising and a cracked rib to my daughter who was sitting in the seat at the time. Since then I have been afraid to drive my vehicle which is a 2001 Mazda MPV. This is the only vehicle that I have and can not afford another because I am disabled and draw ssi. Please help!”
NHTSA complaint #10605463, filed 2014-06, 140,000 miles“I had an accident the 01/18/05 in Mazda MPV 2001 van, the insurance company declare total lost of the car, and my complaint is because the air bags did not work, never came out, that`s why me and my family are in therapy for neck and back, I asking for help, because I called the Mazda company and they do not give me any solutions, this is my first accident and, I don`t know what I have to do.”
NHTSA complaint #10110038, filed 2005-02, 99 miles“Iwas involved in a rather serious accident in which I collided with a buick century that ran a stop sign. I was traveling 30-35 and my front end collided with the drivers side of the other car. The buick was totalled. My car was severely damaged in the front. The airbags failed to deploy. According to the owners manual they should have activated at a speed greater than 14 MPH.”
NHTSA complaint #748591, filed 2001-07“I've had 2 auto accidents involving the front of my van and both times the airbags have failed to come out. Both times the front end of my van have had to be repaired.”
NHTSA complaint #10018399, filed 2003-05“The contact owns a 2001 Mazda MPV. The contact stated that after starting the engine, the front passenger seat side airbag erroneously deployed as the passenger was getting into the vehicle. The passenger suffered an injured back during the incident. The contact indicated that during the deployment the air bag did not inflate but was visible from the side of the passenger seat. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was no notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,446.”
