“I just noticed a very potent gas odor on the rear both right and left side of the car. There are no leaks on the garage floor or my driveway. I know there was a recall for the 2003-2006 e-class, but was there one for 2007-2009 models as well? I just noticed it today and I am the 2nd owner of the vehicle, car has about 78k on the odometer.”
NHTSA complaint #10786912, filed 2015-10, 78,015 miles“After filling up the fuel tank there is a strong odor of gasoline. I smells inside and outside of the car until the car reaches three quarters of a tank or less. I have read in the mercedes benz forums that alot of people are having problems with this! I am driving a ticking time bomb.”
NHTSA complaint #11132880, filed 2018-10, 104,000 miles“The 2007 mercedes E550 emits a very strong gas odor. It smells like gas vapor and not burnt motor oils. The smell appeared shortly after I refueled the gas tank. I drove the car to a shopping center, and I could smell the gas both inside and outside. After leaving the car in the garage, the garage now also smells like gas.”
NHTSA complaint #10586876, filed 2014-05, 60,000 miles“When I fill the gas tank up to the top with fuel, there is a strong oder of gas coming from the car. It doesn't go away until the tank is about 3/4 full after driving. I took it to the dealer, they said they fixed it, but they did not. I think mercedes is aware of this issue yet refuses to do a recall. There are 100's of other complaints about this problem online from other e-class owners.”
NHTSA complaint #10514846, filed 2013-06, 55,000 miles“1/9/2013 I took the car in for the check engine light. They found there was a gas seal leak and they replaced the gas cap. On 7/30/2013 I took my car in for the check engine light. There was a gas tank leak. They had to replace the gas tank. Please feel free to contact me for documentation or further information necessary to be included in the recall or class action for this issue. . .update 04-10-14”
