“While driving today at approx 20-25 MPH brakes suddenly applied on their own and my vehicle swerved and came to a halt. Waited several minutes and restarted the vehicle. Drove on the 101 and 405 freeways without further incident. Drove later on the same day, and the same thing happened again. This is extremely dangerous. What if I had been driving on the freeway? I refuse to drive this vehicle again. Is there a recall on this? I have seen a lot of similar incidents online.”

“I own a mercedes benz 2001 ML320 and the lateral acceleration sensor failed around 15,000 miles and was replaced at my own expense. The bas/esp (break assist/electronic stability program) warning light comes on during each short or long trips and goes away after the vehicle sits for a while and restart of the engine and this started to occur after the warranty expired. …”

NHTSA complaint #10155571, filed 2006-04, 15,000 miles

“She was traveling about 45 MPH when all of a sudden the brakes locked up and she burned rubber on the road before she was able to stop, however she was in the other lane. I was just thanking god another car was not coming the other way. I won't let her drive it and ordered a yaw sensor for it because when I went online to read way this would happen it seems like it happens a lot to the 2001 and it turned out to be the yaw sensor. When we get it in we will try to drive it in and get the codes but I can't believe you have not done a recall on this part. I almost lost my daughter because of this. …”

NHTSA complaint #10723864, filed 2015-06, 120,000 miles

“We bought a used mercedes ml which had the bas/esp lights illuminated and immediately paid $1,268 to get this fixed before driving it anywhere. We told the dealer we would be going on a 600 mile trip. It seemed to be fixed, but after several hundred miles of driving on the way back for hours the bas/esp light came on again. It was in the middle of the night and there was no one to call to check on this, and the dealer never told us it could be dangerous. All of the sudden a few hours later one of the wheels locked up and sent us out of control winding up on the side of the highway. …”

NHTSA complaint #10324691, filed 2010-04, 92,970 miles

“While driving my vehicle, at various speeds, first time at 45 MPH, second at 5 MPH, third at 25 MPH, the esp - electronic slip protection system would engage in my 2001 mercedes ml 320 and bring me to a grinding halt by automatically pumping the brakes while my foot was on the gas. This could very well have caused a serious accident. I went to the dealer where they replaced the computer chip under the brake pedal but were uncertain of the cause of this problem. -250$ instead I took the car home to see who else could work on the yaw sensor as they claimed to be sending this faulty signal. …”
