Example complaints

Brakes: “The warning lights had come on a few days ago stating to check the brakes. Today, when the engine was started, the message stop safely now came on. This does not tell me anything about what I need to do and how critical this error is. Can I drive it to the repair shop or should I have it towed? What has to be replaced? This car is driven by my son who is an inexperienced driver, so this is a major concern.”

NHTSA complaint #10732165, filed 2015-07, 77,948 miles

Engine: “I was driving my 2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid down the road going approximately 35-40 MPH. The vehicle shut off and the dash read stop safely now. I could still steer and brake. It would not restart right away. I tried restarting in about a half an hour and it started. I then drove for approximately 100 yards and the vehicle shut off again and the same dash reading . …”

NHTSA complaint #11155944, filed 2018-12, 258,603 miles

Electrical system: “After having a new water coolant pump (the fourth one in my Mariner Hybrid) and a new throttle body being put into my car by a ford dealership, my car is still having the same problems. Now a service emission sys warning has come on, and being under 150,000 miles still I contacted ford to see what could be done since it was fixed by them but still has a problem related to the electrical hybrid powertrain, and ford says there is nothing else that can be done, even though it clearly is under the warranty that they created due to the failures of both parts.”

NHTSA complaint #10871814, filed 2016-06, 148,700 miles

Steering: “Stopped at gas station to fuel vehicle. Returned to vehicle after fueling. When I started my Mercury Mariner Hybrid, the information screen said service power steering . When I started to move the vehicle, I realized I only had manual steering available. This continued all the way home (5 miles) on icy snow covered roads (following our near blizzard hear in north eastern indiana). Next morning, started vehicle and it was back to normal. …”
