“Transmission would not go into reverse in driveway. Turned vehicle off and restarted and it went into reverese. I then put in forward gear and as I am driving down road the vehicle dies. No issue with shifting before today. If I put the vehicle in neutral the RPM goes up to 2000. I called ford today with VIN # and they told me this vehicle has been fixed per safety recall 11s25 supplement #1. Vehicle is full of fluid and fluid does not have a burnt smell.”
NHTSA complaint #11013547, filed 2017-08, 186,332 miles“Vehicle exhibited no transmission issues and was driving completely fine with no warning lights. I was entering the on ramp to I-95 when the car stopped accelerating when it should have shifted to second gear. When I pulled the vehicle over it acted like it was in neutral no matter what gear it was actually in. This could have been a horrible accident if it happened while I was on the interstate.”
NHTSA complaint #10423171, filed 2011-09, 67,000 miles“Transmission failure of our 2005 Mercury Monterey mini-van with only 66,000 miles on it left my wife and kids stranded on a dirt road in the country far from the city. We got the van fixed and the new transmission went out again 8000 miles later. Ford needs to recall these transmissions before someone gets hurt.”
NHTSA complaint #10353967, filed 2010-09, 66,500 miles“While leaving a parking lot the vehicle came to a stop without any warning. The engine was running but the vehicle would not move in any gear. The local dealer towed in the van and had to replace the torque convertor. Ford motor company did not contact me and warn me that they were aware of this problem. This is a dangerous defect and all owners of this vehicle need to be warned before someone is killed.”
NHTSA complaint #10423467, filed 2011-08, 101,498 miles“I purchased a used 2005 Mercury Monterey on january 22nd 2011. During test drive it felt great. Two days later I am feeling a jerking when taking off from a dead stop. I starting checking on line to see if there are problems with this vehicle. I was shocked to find over two hundred complaints of transmission failure! Why is it with so many similar incidents or problems that no one is doing anything about it?”
