“Dt: last summer while driving down the road at night the lights started flashing on and off. This happened every time the car was driven at night. The problem became worse with time. The headlights would flash on and off when they were on dim or bright. The problem was reported to ford, and there was recall 98v009000. However, this vehicle was not included. The consumer has not taken the car for diagnosis. There have been no other major problems with the vehicle.”
NHTSA complaint #10133777, filed 2005-08, 100,000 miles“The contact owns a 1993 Mercury Sable. The contact stated that the headlights stopped illuminating and could cause a crash. The dealer and manufacturer were notified, but stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 98v009000 (exterior lighting:headlights:switch). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 50,000. Updated 05/08/12”
NHTSA complaint #10454832, filed 2012-04, 50,000 miles“The headlight switch & wiring connector was previously under recall(ref: NHTSA campaign id # 98v009000). The recalled part was replaced(at an authorized ford/Mercury service center) under the original recall, but the replacement part has failed too, causing the headlight switch connector to melt from the heat of the failed part. I feel ford/Mercury should reopen the recall and refund my money for the repair/replacement of the headlight switch and connector, which was done at an authorized ford/Mercury service center.”
NHTSA complaint #728846, filed 2000-08“The vehicle experienced the same problem as stated in recall#98v009000 headlight, however the dealer refused to repair, because the vehicle identification was not included in the recall. The burned plugs and melted contact sockets were replaced. The head lamp would go of and on while the vehicle was in motion.”
NHTSA complaint #10017856, filed 2003-04“Consumer contacted dealer in regard to recall number 98v009000/ manufacturer's recall 98s01, dealer corrected problem. Consumer's vehicle experienced same problem with headlights flicking off and on, causing poor driver's visibility. Manufacturer refused to correct problem again. Please provide any further details.”
