“This sudden and without warning failure caused uncontrolled acceleration. After stopping at an intersection my wife pulled into the roadway and began to accelerate. Shortly she began to say that the car was going faster and faster and she couldn't stop the car from speeding up. I reached over to hit the off switch on the cruise control and my wife continued to press on the brake pedal. The car continued to strain ahead and I could hear the engine noise of high rpms. I tried the coast switch, nothing. …”
NHTSA complaint #703273, filed 1999-02“My transmission makes a loud thump noise when the car is shifted from park to either drive or reverse. Also when I come to a complete stop and then press the accelerator, the car seems to be in neutral and then after a few seconds goes into gear and launches forward. While driving, my speedometer will be accurate, and then just read zero for a while and then will start working again. My air conditioning was not working for a while and it just recently started working again, but often makes a loud high pitched screaming noise. …”
