Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The circumstances of this accident were unusual. Road conditions were clear and dry. No approaching cars in either direction, nothing in the road to cause a problem. I turned the van left from the driveway, which has a raised hump at the end, and began heading west on east swon. I was traveling about 15-20 MPH, both hands on the wheel and looking straight ahead about half a block to a stop sign at the next corner. The van pulled to the right. I tried to turn the wheel left, without response. The van grazed a utility pole. I applied the brake and kept trying to turn. …”

NHTSA complaint #737544, filed 2000-12

“Timing belt failure. In addition, windshield washer pump failed while driving in snow, fluid would not come out, making it impossible to clear winshield. Also driver's mirror malfunctioned. In addition, while driving on slippery roads at about 20 MPH, spun out of control 3 times and ended up on the shoulder of the opposite side of the road. Finally, vehicle pulled to the right after an alignment and new tires.”

NHTSA complaint #526422, filed 1997-12

“The car randomly fails at high speed under both front and rear air loading. Extremely dangerous for driver if in the wrong lane at the time of failure. Dealer has no clue as to what is going on. Says no recall for a problem like this.”
