NHTSA complaint #878480, filed 2001-01

“When attempting to accelerate and upon depressing accelerator pedal vehicle hesitated and lost all power, which could lead to an accident. Also, noticed a cranking noise when accelerating. Consumer has contacted dealer, dealer unable to determine the cause. Please provide any further details.”

NHTSA complaint #868433, filed 2000-08

“While pulling in a parking space car speeded up and took off. Cosumer's foot was on brake and pushed it to floorboard, crashed into sears wall, and none of airbags deployed.”

NHTSA complaint #876212, filed 2000-12

“Since purchase of the vehicle, surging forward while driving or braking has been an ongoing problem. The first occurrence was within the first 30 days of purchase. Dealer worked on car and indicated problem was corrected. The car has repeatedly had the problem, despite multiple trips for repair. Most recent service (august), we were advised there was a computer chip that needed to be reprogrammed. The car was returned, allegedly repaired, however, the problem continues. This vehicle is frequently driven with a small child as passenger and this type of safety defect is certainly problematic. …”
