2001: “Tl the contact owns a 2001 montico diplomat rv. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH on the highway the passenger front tire disintegrated. The failure caused the rv to crash into a sign, and the rv was destroyed. The weather was not a factor. The contact has a police report. The steering device had missing parts. The contact filed a complaint with goodyear. The contact has a picture of the steering device and the rv damage. The insurance company and goodyear inspected the rv. The current and failure mileage was 29,400.”
NHTSA complaint #10184334, filed 2007-03, 29,400 miles2000: “When we first purchased the coach, it had approximately 8 of free play in the steering wheel, before it had any effect on the direction of the front tires. Monaco sent me to a lineup shop in eugene or by the name of kaiser. They replaced the steering gear box, explaining to me that the shephard gear boxes are of very poor quality. The new gear box reduced the free play to approximately 4 of free play. This is a 50% imporvement, but still not very good. Since the front wheels have some distance to travel back and forth without control, the coach will wonder toward one side of the road. …”
