“2004 Nissan Altima 2.5 shuts off on me while I'm driving or parked at a stop light. I had the car taken last year for a ECM reprogram recall last year. Now I've heard that certain years models are having the same problem 2005, 2006, possibly a crankshaft sensor. I searched for a recall for my particular car and I have not find one. Any suggestions?”

NHTSA complaint #10219551, filed 2008-02, 86,000 miles

“Car shut down while driving. There was a recall to reset the ECM that was causing this problem. I was unaware of this recall but now learn that if I had brought my car in to have the system reset I would not have been out any money. But now that the problem has arisen and the car shut down on me, this caused the check engine light to come on. Now I must pay to have the sensor replaced not just reset.”

NHTSA complaint #10220025, filed 2008-03, 66,000 miles

“On 2/5/08 we started our 2004 Nissan Altima and had no power steering. Upon observation the serpentine belt was not turning. We had the car towed to the mechanic and found that the bolt on the main pulley on the crankshaft had fallen out and the pulley had fallen off of the crankshaft. Had this occurred while driving down the interstate at 65mph, the results could have been horrific possibly leading to fatalities.”

NHTSA complaint #10218541, filed 2008-02, 83,000 miles

“While I was pulling out from a parking lot, my car just cut off. I have not had the money to even take it to see what was wrong with it until recently and was told that both of my catalytic converters were going bad and that it would cost $1100 to get it fixed. So I checked online to see it was any recalls on it and it was several but was told it did not include my car. Since the first time that it cut off it has done it at least 6 more times. Once I was in the middle of the street and was almost rear ended by the car behind me. …”

NHTSA complaint #10676717, filed 2015-01, 136,000 miles

“My 2004 Nissan Altima is stalling at red lights and while I am driving. This could cause and accident since it happens without warning. I have taken the car in to the Nissan dealership numerous times for repair. This problem did not occur with my car until the recall work for the ECM reprogramming was done. But, it has been happening since then. Sometimes multiple times per week. I have paid to have the problem correct more than once, and nothing that has been done has stopped this problem. This is definitely a safety hazard.”
