“Recently I been hearing a clicking noise every time I come to a complete stop and when I take off again. It started happening recently. After I hear the click noise coming from the middle of the front of my car, the wheel feels like it’s spinning just a little bit before coming to a stop.”
NHTSA complaint #11728901, filed 2026-04“Happened to me and my wife few times to try to put the vehicle in reverse gear and the car starts warning us to put the shifter in P and no matter what it does not go into gear. After ignition cycle it will operate properly, but that could be a safety issue at certain scenarios. The car doors are fully closed when this happens.”
NHTSA complaint #11554648, filed 2023-11“The car spontaneously shut down. EV OFF displayed on the screen. I was in the middle of the road and unable to turn on the car or shift into neutral to push it off the road. I had to wait over an hour for a tow while in the road. This appears to be an increasing problem as many owners are reporting the same issue on the Nissan Ariya electric SUV Discussion Group page on Facebook.”
NHTSA complaint #11545004, filed 2023-09“My 2023 Nissan Ariya was making a cicada/whining sound under low acceleration. This was found by my local Nissan dealer to be a defect with the reduction gear. The dealership replaced the reduction gear under the powertrain warranty. This issue was present at just under 50,000 miles. Without replacement, the component could fail entirely leading to a total loss of power to the wheels, posing a safety risk while driving. There were no warning lamps on or any indication of a failing component other than the sound getting gradually louder. …”
NHTSA complaint #11770468, filed 2026-10“This is the fourth time this has happened to us during normal driving. I pulled out onto a highway and suddenly with no prior warning, the car lost all power and went into what I can only describe as a limp mode and wouldn't go above 5 mph. I had to quickly pull off the road as traffic was catching up at highway speed. The dashboard flashed Malfunction, see owners manual and we had an orange triangle with an exclamation point as well as a circle with exclamation point with a wrench next to it. The traction control light and car with exclamation point were also lit up. …”
