“I was using my four wheel drive when I noticed a loud clunk and found that my axle had popped out of the front differential. I am among over 1000s of Titan owners with this same issue that Nissan knows about and has caused multiple failures in our trucks. It also caused a failure in mine. The have known about this issue for years now and changed there part in 07 from the original number 38500-8s102 to the new product number 38500-8s11b truck is a Nissan Titan 2004 se king cab 4wd.”
NHTSA complaint #10496387, filed 2013-02, 140,000 miles“I have same problem as everyone else with cracked exhaust manifolds starting around 65000 miles. Expensive to replace so I have no choice but to listen to a horrible exhaust leaks. Next is the rear axle seals first around 65000.replaced 2x. After talking to Nissan tech who is a friend apparently its a very common problem. The axle tubes tend to warp causing a leak all over tires n brakes and eventual failure of gears inrear pumpkin if not caught. Just waiting for it to happen again. Brakes have always been a problem. Every 7000 brakes n rotors r shot and need replacing. …”
NHTSA complaint #10652947, filed 2014-11, 7,000 miles“Rear axle seals on my Nissan 2004 Titan have been replaced 4 times in the last 2 years, I just had them replaced and the new seals are leaking. This is due to a poorly designed axle by Nissan; of course they will not stand behind their poor design. The bulletin put out by the car manufacture is to replace the axle's being both sides in the rear at a cost of thousands should Nissan do the work. I find this very disturbing as do thousands of other 04, 05, 06 model year Titan owners. The real problem is if gone undetected by some, the rear can lose all of its oil causing the rear to lock up! …”
NHTSA complaint #10531959, filed 2013-07, 150,000 miles“I was driving on the freeway where the speed limit is 65 MPH. I was going that speed when, what I thought was my drive shaft, basically exploded and fell apart whilst I was in motion. I have kept up one all mandatory and basic maintenance work and have never had a problem with it before. Parts flew out from all around my truck and it slammed into a complete stop as if I had made impact into something. Passing vehicles had to stay clear of the debris an I had to push my truck into the emergency lane. Highway patrol asked if I was alright and I stated to have already had a tow truck on its way. …”
NHTSA complaint #10430742, filed 2011-10, 115,000 miles“Leaking axles seals after multiple replacements and incidents on road. Not covered under warranty or recall even though there are thousands of reports for this issue and axle overheating. Vehicle axle broke near bearing going 65 MPH on highway with no warning two weeks ago 9/10/2019 there is still no safety recall.”
