“The contact owns a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH attempting to stop, there was a slippery substance on the road which caused the vehicle to slide and crash into the rear of another vehicle. As a result, the air bags failed to deploy. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact received a notification for NHTSA campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system) prior to the crash. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 233,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10644807, filed 2014-10, 233,000 miles

“My vehicle was bumped from behind by a vehicle making a sudden lane change while traveling 70mph. Although there was no actual impact it was enough to cause the car to slide left and scrape the left rear bumper along a concrete barrier causing minimal damage to my vehicle. During my emergency breaking and the rapid deceleration to maintain control of the vehicle the front airbags deployed forcing my hands off the wheel and obstructing my view causing the car to go out of control. As a result of the inflation of the airbags the car sustained major damage.”

NHTSA complaint #702364, filed 1999-01

“Car was stopped and waiting to make a left hand turn. Was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer going 50-55 MPH. When car was struck, it was pushed across highway and struck guardrail at more than 10 MPH, according to witness. Neither front airbag deployed. Possible defect either in system, itself, or in mfg. Process??”

NHTSA complaint #725256, filed 2000-07

“While sitting at an intersection passenger's side air bag failed inadvertently. Also, while accelerating the driver's side air bag deployed. Reported. No injuries. Vehicle was towed to dealer.”

NHTSA complaint #10073929, filed 2004-05
