“On 9/21/04 I was stopped for a traffic light waiting to turn left. As I took my foot off the brake the car suddenly accelerated without pressing the gas. I used the brake to slow to a normal speed to safely make the turn. Within 3 miles I stopped at another traffic light preparing to make a left into a busy road. As I released the brake, the accelerator again surged on its own. I had to quickly brake behind other vehicles ahead of me. Moments later I made a right into a crowded parking lot then turning left to find parking at the library. …”
NHTSA complaint #10093173, filed 2004-09“After turning cruise control off cruise control will not come back on unless consumer shuts off vehicle. Consumer states if he has cruise control on, and he has to stop or slow down, once he starts driving again and pushes the resume button it shuts off the cruise control, cruise control will not come back on until the engine is turned off.”
NHTSA complaint #888881, filed 2001-05“Started car and with brake pressed down, shifted into reverse with no pressure on the accelerator. The steering felt tight. The car accelerated wildly in reverse, made a u-turn and hit 3 parked cars. In process I tried to stop it with the brake but it did nothing the brake was all the way, as far as it could go.”
NHTSA complaint #720769, filed 2000-03“When starting out from a stop gas pedal sticks. Manufacturer/dealership are aware of the situation. The problem is being corrected. The dealership asserted since problem was due to residue buildup on the mechanism, that it was considered normal wear and tear. Consumer maintains that there must be a design flaw because this condition should not occur on a six month old vehicle.”
NHTSA complaint #837421, filed 1999-05“Consumer experiencing ongoing intermittent sudden acceleration, causing vehicle to lose control for unknown reason. Vehicle has been insepected/repaired by dealer on two occasions and problem reoccurred. Consumer stated the first time the incident occured, another vehicle backed in her vehicle and the vehicle went out of control, consumer was then told to take vehicle to dealer, but was told vehicle did not have enough miles on it to be checked.”
