“My 99 Pontiac Grand Am is slowly leaking anti-freeze, the mechanic I went to knew exactly where to look, the intake manifold. He said they are getting one or two each week and did not know why they have not recalled the vehicle. I figure this would be an environmental concern and I have never heard of any vehicles leaking a coolant after only 60,000 miles.”
NHTSA complaint #10140758, filed 2005-10, 65,000 miles“Replacement of the following parts on 99 Pontiac Grand Am, r&r fuel strainer & filter/fuel filter/fuel pump/fuel injection/water pump/ECM/2brake jobs/thermostat/also I am having problems with coolant system overheating/ loss of coolant/ fog window/ smell of coolant/ loss of power/ low coolant continually I have to add coolant every week.”
NHTSA complaint #10142805, filed 2005-11, 6,000 miles“I had to replace the tensioner soon after that the engine went. I have two friends with same problem. I have a 99 Pontiac Grand Am. Currently my car is in the shop . The car just hit 100k miles. Also the shop where my car is being fix notice that there was coolant leaking into the engine.”
NHTSA complaint #10105864, filed 2005-01, 100,000 miles“I own a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am. I have a coolant leak and have been told that it is from an intake gasket. I have researched this and the problem seems to be as common as a house plant. Why has GM not been forced into a recall? Or better yet, why has GM not done the right thing and issued a recall?”
NHTSA complaint #10008424, filed 2003-03, 70,000 miles“During the last 6 months my wife and I have put approximately $650.00 into a 1999 Grand Am. This was replacing the water pump, alternator and the *intake gaskets *has not been 30 days. On june 20 the engine fails. This was a $220.00 towing bill. Several people and mechanics are questioned no one has the answer. But I do believe GM can provide the answer to all of our questions. We will never own another GM product.”
