“I have a 2005 Pontiac GTO with the strut rub issue. I have already been through 3 sets of tires. The dealership has done nothing to correct the problem. They keep blaming it on the fact that my car is out of alignment. I have to replace two more this weekend if I can afford it. They already have holes in them. I just replaced them about 5 months ago or so.”
NHTSA complaint #10233325, filed 2008-07, 12,000 miles“My 2005 Pontiac GTO front tires were cut on the inboard side due to rubbing on the front struts. The car only has 20,000 miles and has the factory installed rims and tires. The left front tire blew out at high speed causing me to almost lose control of vehicle. At that time I noticed the other tire rubbing on the strut as well.”
NHTSA complaint #10241751, filed 2008-09, 20,000 miles“I bought a 2005 GTO and with only 27,000 miles the stock front tires are rubbing on the front strut bracket. I was told by a shop not to drive it as the tires are close to a blowout. Five minutes on the internet reveals this is a very common problem that has caused many accidents.”
NHTSA complaint #10331176, filed 2010-05, 27,000 miles“My 2005 Pontiac GTO has issues with the struts causing my tires to wear on the inside and jerks really bad upon applying the brakes causing the steering wheel to shake as well. This is scary at times and GM needs to be investigated for this vehicle. I have put 4 sets of tires on the car, this is ridiculous and not safe. I fear I will have a blowout due to the inside tire wearing on the struts. This is very dangerous.”
NHTSA complaint #10315036, filed 2010-03, 21,500 miles“I discovered severe inside tire damage at only 17,000 miles. Research found that many other 2005 Pontiac GTO's are suffering from similar damage due to the front tires rubbing on the struts. I took the car to my local dealer, and he refused to do any aside from selling me two new tires and an alignment.”
