“Winter weather led to snow buildup on the headlamps which made them useless. Fortunately this was during the day so there was plenty of sunlight. If this was at night, I would not have had any visibility and would have needed to stop every few miles to clean the headlamps. My BMW uses washer fluid to clean my headlamps and the xenon's are hot enough to melt snow. Neither of these are in the Rivian”

“Component/System: Visibility – Windshield. Was replaced in January 2026, not available for inspection. Pictures attached, doesn't include largest/spider crack on bottom of windshield that was 16 Summary of the Problem: I have experienced six separate windshield failures (cracks and chips) within the first eight months of owning my 2025 Rivian R1S. The most recent windshield was replaced by Rivian, and within five days the new glass developed an 7‑inch crack from an impact. …”

NHTSA complaint #11717398, filed 2026-02

“I am submitting this formal safety complaint regarding a dangerous and unacceptable condition affecting my Rivian. Rivian's new Ghostbusters Halloween promotion, developed in partnership with Sony Pictures, repeatedly takes over a substantial portion of my vehicle's central touchscreen. More seriously, when I shift the vehicle into reverse, the advertisement remains on-screen and obscures the rearview-camera image on most occasions. This is not a hypothetical concern. I have personally experienced this behavior repeatedly. …”

NHTSA complaint #11770961, filed 2026-10

“Safety defect involving exterior rearview mirrors on Rivian R1S I am reporting a recurring and worsening safety issue involving the exterior rearview mirrors on my Rivian R1S Gen 2. Both side mirrors repeatedly lose their saved positions without driver input. More concerningly, on multiple occasions the mirrors have changed position while the vehicle was being driven, including at highway speeds. When this occurs, my rearward and side visibility is unexpectedly altered while driving, requiring me to readjust the mirrors and creating a significant safety concern. …”

NHTSA complaint #11763358, filed 2026-09

“Backup camera inoperable when putting car into reverse. Requires a system reset. Daily issue. Issue started within one week of ownership. Service replaced ECU. Upon return of vehicle, issue repeated itself. Was told that inoperable backup camera is a convenience feature and not safety critical.”
