“I was traveling at 50mph when I heard a loud pop from the front suspension. After the pop the front end would rattle over bumps. Upon further inspection I discovered the front right coil spring had cracked. After looking at the spring more I found another crack in the same spring.”
NHTSA complaint #10560252, filed 2014-01, 97,000 miles“Noticed a sudden steering pull and thump/rattle in front end. Drove to nearest shop to have a look and was told my front coil springs were broken and lucky that the spring did not shred the tire and cause a loss of control/accident! I've been told that this has been a somewhat common defect on similar year models. Shop recommended replace both springs before driving again.”
NHTSA complaint #10283910, filed 2009-09, 25,246 miles“I was driving through the ted williams tunnel and the left front coil spring broke. I did not hit a bump. The spring caused a catastropic failure of the left front tire. I had to be towed out of the tunnel and have new coil springs installed.”
NHTSA complaint #10257604, filed 2009-02, 51,275 miles“This is a serious issue known to NHTSA and GM under pe 08051. It needs to be addressed and a recall issued. Backing out of garage I heard a pop from right front area of car when put in reverse. Drove about 200 feet before I smelled burning rubber. Car became very difficult to steer. I had car towed to independent service garage. It is determined that the right front spring broke and became entangled in front suspension, steering and tire. Had I been going at a speed greater than 20 miles per hour I would have not been able to steer the car to a safe stop. …”
NHTSA complaint #10726587, filed 2015-06, 55,000 miles“Backing my 2004 Saab 93 out of the garage I heard I loud rubbing noise. I got my husband, he had me drive up the driveway, then back down. On the way back a tire blew, so we had the car towed to the dealer. The right front spring had broken and jetted into the tire, causing the blowout. The left front spring was also cracked at the base, so both needed to be replaced at a cost to me of $1300. The car has about 62k miles on it.”
