“Failure of a wiring harness in a front door that controls windows, mirrors and door lock. A 2004 Saturn ION with 25, 106 miles had 5 broken wires in the drivers door. The left rear door has no power at the window switch. This failure is due to an inherent design flaw that forces tiny wires to bend 2 times at 90 degrees and be slammed by a door!! Think of the safety of unlocking a door in a panic situation or driving with a window down in rain, sleet, cold, etc., and a fuse is not the problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10243250, filed 2008-09, 25,106 miles“Intermittently, when the doors were closed, they did not close fully, they stayed ajar, which resulted in the door flying open when turning. The dealership was unable to correct the problem, although the failure occurred in their presence.”
NHTSA complaint #10073331, filed 2004-05, 200 miles“My daughter has a 2004 Saturn ION coupe. She is a new driver and has told me an several occasions that the hood on her vehicle keeps opening by accident. I asked if it was opening all the or just part of the way. She said just popping up part of the way and she has to open it from the front and close it completely. I asked her to let me know the next time it happened and she did. I took a look and saw it had released and was only being held shut by the secondary safety latch. When I looked at the location of the hood release I noted it was located very close to the floor on the driver's left. …”
NHTSA complaint #10163669, filed 2006-07“The contact owns a 2004 Saturn ION. On april 14, 2009, while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle shut off without warning and the door lock system failed. The vehicle previously experienced electrical failures and trunk failure. The dealer replaced the trunk stopper. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop for a diagnosis. The current and failure mileages were 50,000.”
