Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I have had two tires fail through the sidewall of the tires. Both tires were rear, 49,000 miles. The vehicle had just passed inspection, tires were in excellent condition. The tire is 185/65r14 85s firestone fr680. I replaced one with a new firestone and the other with a goodyear republic. Is there a recall on this tire? I have two more that could blow at any time on the front.”

NHTSA complaint #10125297, filed 2005-06

“Tire- driving 70 MPH on interstate and tire burst for no apparent reason, nothing hit, and new tires. Rained hard and water leaked through windshield onto top of left side of roof,l visor, and driver's seat soaked. Heater, makes a clicking noise when in use. (DOT number: p185 r65 tiresize: p185r85 14)”

“Traveling from fl to ia. Tire blew out in northern georgia on interstate 75. Inside of passenger rear tire came apart from rest. Tire in two complete circles. Had to get towed and tire replaced. Very scary situation. Car handled ok. No nails or cause of blowout determined by towing/tire business who replaced tired. I am worried about driving with other tires. Only have 27,000 miles on them. Thanks. (tiresize: p185/65r15)”
