Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Twice I was stopping the car--once to park and once at a light and instead of stopping the engine revved up at full throttle dragging the car forward even with the brakes pressed fully down. I had to throw the transmission into neutral and cut the engine off to stop it. No reason was ever found.”

NHTSA complaint #10304629, filed 2010-02, 30,000 miles

“While driving in cold weather at any speed the vehicle accelerateed without warning. As a result, the consumer had to shut off the vehicle. Please provide additional information.”

NHTSA complaint #10107479, filed 2005-01, 100,000 miles

“When car is placed in driver or neutral, rpms rev up and stick. Potential hazard. Saturn said their diagnostic machine found nothing. 45 minutes after I had it checked I returned to Saturn and spoke with tech and car presented with problem. He changed what he called a heat/cool sensor and problem subsided for 3 days. Now problem presents again.”

NHTSA complaint #756773, filed 2002-01

“Two different incidents when placing vehicle in park or placing it in reverse rpms raced very high for no apparent reason. Problem was intermittent. Consumer believed that problem was linked to computer. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer was unable to determine the cause. Please provide any further details.”

NHTSA complaint #870417, filed 2000-09

“Intermittently, the vehicle accelerates by itself, rpms go above 3,500, vehicle taken to dealership 3 times (jan,2000) for the same problem, dealer could not duplicate the problem and said the cumputer did not show any problem with the vehicle. Cj”
