“A huge crack has appeared in the middle of my windshield from top right about where rear view mirror is and it stretches left and right across my windshield! I have seen several XB's with the same crack in my town alone! I find this to be very odd!!! I feel this is definitely a problem to be addressed by the maker!”
NHTSA complaint #10277359, filed 2009-07, 45,000 miles“2004 Scion XB. Car drove by, small stone hit windshield. Very tiny mark on windshield. While I was driving, a huge crack spread all the way across the windshield. I've never had a car before that with a small chip or stone mark, the whole windshield cracks. This has too be a design flaw. Maybe they need to coat the windshield for protection, or change the design.”
NHTSA complaint #10184399, filed 2007-03, 28,000 miles“Scion XB cracked windshield. L-shaped crack behind the rearview mirror. No crack in the morning, and a crack suddenly appears in the afternoon, and the car never left the parking. Due to research done over the internet I have found out that many Scion XB owners in various states throughout the u.s. Are having the same problem in the same spot. This seems to be a design problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10262469, filed 2009-03, 58,000 miles“I have a 2004 Scion XB . I bought it new in march '04. I recently found out that the XB has a design flaw. The size of the windshield and the stress points cause cracking very easily. It turns out the toyota bb in japan had this problem but it wasn't considered a big problem. The bb is the Scion XB here in america . According to Scion, they know this is a design flaw and are going to change some of its design in the '08 model. They are not very concerned about how we owners feel on this subject. There are many forums out there with many Scion owners complaining about these windshields. …”
NHTSA complaint #10170265, filed 2006-10“The contact owns a 2004 toyota Scion XB. In an attempt to drive the vehicle at various speeds, the contact noticed a 1 foot by 1 foot crack on the front windshield. The current mileage was 60,000 and failure mileage was 55,000.”
