Example complaints

Brakes: “The contact owns a 2015 Scion XB. While driving 20 MPH, the vehicle failed to come to a complete stop when the brake pedal was depressed. As a result, the vehicle crashed into another vehicle. The air bags deployed. A police report was filed. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was towed to the contact's insurance company to determine the condition of the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 40,000.”

NHTSA complaint #11162051, filed 2018-12, 40,000 miles

Electrical system: “Last night we went out. The car was parked at an event for a couple hours, then we were headed for dinner when the dashboard lit up, the power steering went out and the car suddenly lost power. Fortunately we were on a low traveled city street and were able to pull off for safety. If we had been on the freeway, I have no doubt that, in the dark, on a saturday night, this incident would have resulted in injury or worse. The pictures of the wiring are attached. …”

NHTSA complaint #11040922, filed 2017-10, 23,428 miles

Engine: “The car is giving problems in the engine, it's consuming way too mucho oil. I found out that there was a recall this Monday oct 18, 2021, and they told me that I can not participate because my car exceeds the miles limit by 6k miles, which I know, but if I knew that, I would've taken the car to a Toyota Dealer earlier. Is it possible to have it repair by some empathy and understanding of not receiving anything on mail or alert whatsoever. Please I beg for help, it's my only vehicle, the one I go to work to. …”
