“My Subaru Crosstrek is a 2019 - less than 2 years old and still covered by warranty. It has been meticulously cared for and only dealer serviced. 3 days ago the car's engine shut off while we were driving it. There was a complete loss of power to the brakes and steering. We could have been killed. I brought the car in immediately to the dealer service I have always been going to, and they cannot find anything wrong with the car. In his own words, the service manager said I would not feel comfortable letting my family or loved ones using your car - but he offered no help. …”
NHTSA complaint #11406867, filed 2021-04, 28,000 miles“I am appealing to you for help with a dangerous problem. The engine of my new 2019 Subaru Crosstrek stalls when I jam on the break. This has happened twice on the road. Both times I was able to avert a fatal accident. 1.) the first time the engine shut down from a hard stop occurred the night of december 26th. The driver was on the highway, when he made a sharp break realizing he'd gone in the wrong direction. The car's engine shut down on the highway. Luckily it was night and few cars were on the road 2.) on sunday, april 7th, I was driving slowly on a country road. …”
NHTSA complaint #11197294, filed 2019-04, 800 miles“Hello! I started financing my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek in 04/2023. A month after that date, I had a head gasket issue. Then in 2024, a radiator cap deformed after going to the dealer to get an oil change at SF Honda. (The time on that was suspicious being that I didn’t touch that cap at all.) so I had to pay for that repair. Now in 2025, after getting an oil change at Subaru, a day after that oil change, a lot of lights came onto my dashboard. …”
NHTSA complaint #11644364, filed 2025-02“The vehicle of concern is a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV). In the past 2 to 3 months, we have had multiple warning lights come on when the vehicle is started. In some cases, we were able to clear the warning lights by turning the vehicle off and back on several times over the course of 30-40 minutes. The two most recent occurrences involved the vehicle having to be towed to the dealership as either the car would not shift out of Park or upon shifting out of Park, the parking brake would not release. …”
NHTSA complaint #11431464, filed 2021-09“My daughter was in process of pulling her car into the garage when it experienced sudden acceleration and crashed into the garage. My daughter was unable to stop the car as the brake system failed during the incident. She is now too terrified to drive the car. Subaru claims that the car is and has been operating as intended. The Subaru Eyesight, Anti-Lock Braking, Vehicle Dynamic Control systems all failed during the sudden acceleration event. It's fortunate that this incident did not happen at a stoplight (intersection).”
