Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The clutch pedal on my 2011 sti makes a loud creaking noise every time it's depressed. When I investigated the noise, I noticed that the entire clutch pedal bracket assembly (attached to the forward firewall) shifts approx 1/4 inch every time the clutch pedal is depressed. I found that the three spot welds securing the clutch pedal bracket to the forward firewall were broken. From the outside of the firewall, just under the windshield wipers, I saw the spot welds pulling away from the firewall every time the clutch pedal was depressed. …”

NHTSA complaint #10562557, filed 2014-02, 26,900 miles

“Clutch pedal squeaks while being depressed. Clutch pedal is attached to the firewall. Firewall joint is weak. Brake pedal will slightly shift when clutch is depressed. There is currently only minor movement but it has become worse and worse. There are shops that offer a repair by re-welding the firewall but it is an expensive fix. I foresee this being a safety issue and needs to be a recall. The firewall seams could break and we could lose our braking. Also, the firewall would not be able to do its job of protecting us from a potential fire. Please advise. …”

NHTSA complaint #10606350, filed 2014-06, 32,387 miles

“In cold weather (approx. 10 degrees fahrenheit or below) upon starting the vehicle a high-pitched noise can be heard and the traction control warning light and hill-hold warning light at times simultaneously illuminate. Each time I have cycled the ignition off and then started the vehicle again the warning lights are no longer on. …”

NHTSA complaint #10563580, filed 2014-02, 24,000 miles

“Received a recall regarding brake light switch but dealership (Subaru wakefield) has said that they do not have parts and have no plans. I've asked for a replacement vehicle until this safety issue can be addressed and I was denied. I want my car repaired or replaced with a loaner.”

NHTSA complaint #11185557, filed 2019-03

“The contact owns a 2011 Subaru Impreza outback. The contact was driving with the cruise control set to approximately 55-60 MPH. After trying to decelerate and continuously depressing brake pedal, the vehicle would not stop. The contact was unable to stop the vehicle and crashed into four other vehicles. The contact sustained severe head injuries. One other passenger in another vehicle was reported injured and both were transported to the hospital via ambulance. The police were contacted and a report was filed and available. …”
